Dear Graham Local Parents and Guardians:
As winter approaches, please know your child’s safety is always a concern to all members of the Graham Local School District. It is with this understanding that I write this letter intending to explain the process by which Graham Local School officials come to a decision to delay or cancel school.
School calamity days may be called for a variety of issues. As you know, snow, ice and fog are the most common in west central Ohio. A calamity day may also be called for an electrical outage, plumbing troubles or other facility issues, and even issues such as staff illness. Obviously, inclement weather is the biggest concern during winter.
To determine if school is closed or delayed by inclement weather, the following steps are taken:
1. Mr. Don Burley, Director of Operations, and I drive the roads of our district.
2. Mr. Burley and I contact school officials of neighboring districts regarding their weather and road conditions.
3. Mr. Burley and I consult local weather forecasts.
Because Graham’s first buses hit the road early, an initial decision regarding school delay or closure is usually made by 5:30 a.m. If a second decision is required, the deadline is 7:30 a.m.
Once a decision has been made to delay or cancel school, there are several methods for you to obtain pertinent information:
One Call Now
Graham Local School uses the One Call Now system. One Call Now will be in place to notify parents of school closings and delays, current events and any other pertinent school information. Parents will be able to update their information throughout the school year on the Graham Local website via a One Call Now Update banner on each specific buildings’ home page. One call now is used by principals to address building-level issues. It can also be used to share important safety information that impacts the entire district.

Closing and Delay information will appear on the district home page, as soon as possible once a decision has been made.

Text / E-mail
A texting and/or e-mail notification system can be utilized by accessing the sign-up information via a link on the district’s home page.
Radio / TV
K-99.1 FM in Dayton and WKPO 98.3 FM in Bellefontaine
TV Channels – 2, 7, 22 and 45 in Dayton
Another important safety concern is to remember to devise a plan for your family in the event the district must call for an early dismissal. Especially important is for young children who ride the bus to have someone meet them if an early dismissal is called.
As always, your cooperation and understanding are greatly appreciated.
