Digital Day Information

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: Graham Local Digital Days

What are Digital Days?

With an increased number of staff absences and limited substitute availability, Graham Local Schools has developed plans to utilize Digital Learning Days. The end goal is to limit the number of calamity days used for sickness as this will greatly impact the required hours of instruction for our students. Using a Digital Learning Day will allow our students to continue to learn online with support from their classroom teachers.

Graham Local Schools has the ability to use 5 traditional cancellations during the school year.  These days were considered “snow days” in the past.  Digital Days will be utilized for any weather-related cancellations that go past the 5th day that school is closed.

When would we use these days?

If we have a day where we cannot cover the number of substitutes needed to have a regular school day, we would utilize the One Call system to announce a Digital Day. The goal would be to inform parents and staff the night before this would happen to allow time for families to make plans. This could be for one day or for an extended period of days. Digital Days can be used for the entire district or for only a specific building.

Digital Days will also be utilized for any weather-related cancellations that go past the 5th school cancellation.  As of 1/11/2022 Graham Local Schools have used 2 calamity days, which means that the district has 3 more traditional cancellation days before Digital Days will be used in lieu of making the days up at the end of the year.

Where will students get their work?

Teachers have worked to make their lessons and directions available on Google Classroom.   Students will be able to access this work by logging into their account.

What if we do not have internet access?

Graham Local Schools has access to a limited number of Verizon Routers that can be assigned to families that do not have internet access.  Please email Chad Lensman, [email protected], or call your child’s school if you have limited or no internet access at all and would like to borrow a router from the district.  The routers will be assigned based on the order of request.  Paper copies of student work will still be available for those that do not have internet access.  Please communicate with your child’s teacher if you need paper copies of student work.

What if my child does not have a device?

GLS does not have the capacity to lend out devices at this time. The devices that are currently used in the building are needed for day-to-day operations. This would be revisited if there would be a prolonged distance learning timeframe.

When is the work assigned on digital days due?

Work will be due in an equivalent amount of time as we are on digital days. For example, if we are on two days of digital learning, students will have two days to turn in assignments once we are back in person.

What if my child is ill on a digital day and unable to complete school work?

Please communicate with your child’s teacher about any illnesses on these days. Work will be due in an equivalent amount of time as we are on digital days. For example, if we are on two days of digital learning, students will have two days to turn in assignments once we are back in person.

How will attendance be tracked on digital days?

Teachers will make an effort to contact students each day. Students will be expected to complete work at home. If a teacher is unable to reach a student, they will communicate with family about the work and times for assistance online. We will continue to work with families to ensure that they are getting assistance when needed; however, we need to have communication from families when there is sickness or issues with access to the internet.

How will my child communicate with his/her teacher(s)?

Teachers will be available through their @grahamlocalschools email account, school phone, or through Google Classroom.

Will my child know what to expect on Digital Learning Days?

Teachers and students are encouraged to talk about Digital Learning Day expectations while they are in school. Many teachers have already reviewed digital learning expectations with their students.

How will my child receive support from his/her teacher(s) on Digital Learning Days?

Support from Graham Local Schools’ teaching staff could come in a variety of ways including the following:  live Zooms/Google Meets (Schedules will be shared on Google Classroom), Zoom/Google Meet recordings, emails, and phone calls.
