At Graham Elementary School, the Trout Unlimited Trout in the Classroom project is an important part of our annual story. This year, on May 6, we celebrated year 15 of the project with a successful trout release project!
Teachers Julie Butcher, Misty Roach and Katie Setty welcomed tanks into their classrooms and raised approximately 300 trout to be ready for release into the Mad River.
On release day, GES staff, students and a handful of volunteers traveled to Lions Park in West Liberty to release the trout into Onion Creek. The fish from our project will help to propagate the trout population in the Mad River. Students learned to cast a fly fishing rod, released a fish into the creek and met with Ohio Department of Natural Resources Officer Ethan Simmons to learn about the Mad River ecosystem.
Thank you to everyone who made this year's trip a success!
We are excited for year 16!

Attention families of students in grades K, 1 and 2:

We are excited to share that we will have local author, Nicole Loy, visiting Graham Elementary on Friday, May 1, 2026. Mrs. Nance, GES librarian, has arranged for Nicole to visit, read her book and speak with our learners about her work as an author.

Families can pre-order signed copies of Nicole's book - Saving Sir Stud Muffin - using the link below:

https://hurrybackbooks.com/

Order forms will be sent home today. If purchasing a book online, please complete the purchase online AND return order form to school on or before Friday, April 24. This order form will provide Nicole with the information needed to sign the book and have the order prepared for the May 1 visit.

Books can also be purchased (cash or check) on the day of Nicole's visit, and we will share more information about this opportunity as Nicole's visit draws near.

Please contact Mrs. Nance with any questions.

We appreciate you!

We had a wonderful day with Boonshoft Visiting GES. We were able to pay for this wonderful experience for our learners by using the proceeds from our Tasty Traditions Fundraiser!

A HUGE shoutout to our parent volunteers who were able to help us make this day a huge success! Our students learned SO MUCH about animals and the different adaptations they have. We even had a Mrs. Lonsinger volunteer to become an animal with adaptations that our students chose. After the presentation, students were able to do some very hands-on activities to learn even more about how animals adapt to their environment to survive! Everything from the way different animals move to the way bugs see the world!
