The Graham Local Schools Board of Education met on April 20, with the meeting called to order by Ms. Maurice, leading the Pledge of Allegiance at Graham Elementary.
The Board recognized the Graham High School Wrestling Team for an incredible 25th consecutive and 27th overall State Championship, along with individual state champions, Cooper Breslin (113), Jake Hoke (165), and Kyler Crooks (175), along with multiple state placers and qualifiers. The district also celebrated earning the Momentum Award for growth, with Graham High School receiving the Building Momentum Award and Graham Middle School earning a 5-Star rating, making it the only 5-Star school across Champaign, Clark, and Logan Counties.
The BOE also recognized the success of the Band Program’s Spring Break trip to Myrtle Beach, which provided students with a valuable performance and travel experience. Thank you to the Band Parent Organization, sponsors, chaperones, and especially Lauren Buell and Michele Slone for their leadership in making this opportunity possible. Band members, staff, and parents will present to the BOE at the May meeting.
Student success continues across the district. Highlights include Zoey Conn earning All-Ohio 2nd Team honors in Division IV basketball, and Kelsey Weinert being named 2nd Team All-District in Division II (Southwest Ohio), multiple first-place finishes at the Tecumseh Track Invitational, and Emilie Alcorn placing first in the Clark State Research Essay Contest. Middle school students Moxie Evilsizor and Adelyn Guidera also earned Platinum Pen Awards, qualifying for state Power of the Pen and being published in the "Book of Winners" for the first time in Graham Middle School history.
Mrs. Shreve shared updates from Graham Elementary, highlighting student growth, Leader in Me initiatives, and building-wide goals. The Student Lighthouse Team also presented, sharing their leadership roles in daily announcements, flag duties, and organizing events such as Movie Night and the Back to School Bash. The GES choir, made up of fourth- and fifth-graders, performed a selection of classic songs to close out the elementary presentation for the Board. Thanks to Mrs. Hanna and Ms. Lockwood for leading the LIM work and Ms. Henrick and Mrs. Blosser for their work with the GES Choir!
The Board approved the April Personnel Schedule, which included several key staffing updates. This included accepting the resignations of Treasurer Patrick Swan and Graham Middle School Principal Nick Guidera, effective at the end of this school year. The district also approved new hires for the upcoming school year, including intervention specialists and teaching positions at Graham Elementary, as well as transportation and supplemental athletic roles.
The Board accepted multiple donations supporting district students and programs, including contributions toward the Military Wall of Honor, High School Prom, Middle School Color Run, athletics, library books, and assistance with student lunch balances. The board members expressed their appreciation and gratitude for the community's continued generosity.
Additional items included approval of the NIST Cybersecurity Framework 2.0, policy updates, financial reports, and a contract with K-12 Consulting to assist with the Treasurer search.
