Falcon Family - this is a great way to give back within Champaign County. Derick is a 2013 Triad graduate and can use our support! Check out his story below!

The Legacy Strongheart Foundation is a local non-profit foundation based in Champaign County. Our mission is to bring happiness and help to children and young adults affected by illnesses and disabilities.
With the support of our local community and businesses we hope to assist families during their time of need. At this time, we are planning fundraising events to support Derick Byrd, a 2013 Triad graduate. Derick is my son and is on the U.S. Paralympic Snowboarding Team. In order to help in his endeavors, he is in need of financial assistance with travel in Europe, as well as costs of snowboarding gear. Derick currently resides in Breckenridge, Colorado, where he works and trains. He will be in Europe mid January to the end of February to compete in several snowboarding events. Derick’s goal is to win gold in the winter paralympic games in Italy, 2026.
Derick was diagnosed with bone cancer, Osteosarcoma, in November of 2003. He underwent a surgery to save his leg, but in 2008 the implanted prostheses failed and he had to undergo an above knee amputation. The amputation did not hold Derick back. He played every male sport while in high school and fell in love with snowboarding in 2009. Derick has been on a board with no adaptation since his first ride down a bunny hill.
Derick and myself are available to speak with you and provide you with more information. Please reach out if you have any questions or would like to find a way to support in some way.
Currently we are prompting a t-shirt campaign for Derick to raise funds. Would it be possible to share this link with your schools? The link is below:
